Neha Bora, 29, has become one of the most visible faces of India's youth-led protests against the revision of voter lists, Reuters reported in a profile published on 14-10-2026.
Bora is the national president of the left-wing All India Students' Association (AISA) and a doctoral student at Jawaharlal Nehru University's School of Arts and Aesthetics. She grew up in Uttarakhand, studied at Delhi University and traces her path into activism to theatre and to the 2019–2020 student protests against a citizenship law, according to Reuters. Her father served in the Indian Army, Gulf News reported.
She was detained on 10-10-2026 as police blocked protesters from reaching Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, and was released later that day, Reuters and Gulf News reported. Gulf News said she had also been detained on 03-10-2026 and returned to the protests after each detention. A video message she posted while in detention, "I am in detention. The movement is not", was widely shared online.
The protests, led by the youth 'Cockroach Janta Party' movement, demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. More than 130 million names have been removed from voter lists during the revision, according to AP and Reuters; protesters blame irregularities, which the Election Commission and the government deny.
In July 2026, Bora joined protests demanding the education minister's resignation over alleged exam-paper leaks.
