Thousands of retirees and others marched peacefully in Madrid on 24-10-2026 to protect public pensions, before the snap election on 29-11-2026, AP reported. The Socialists accused the conservative Popular Party of proposing to privatise pensions. "They are threatening us with privatizing pensions," said Maria José Benito, 68.
Housing protests continue in the capital, centred on a tent camp in Puerta del Sol that has stood for almost a month.
