Israelis will elect all 120 members of the Knesset on 27-10-2026, after parliament dissolved on 17-07-2026, according to the US Library of Congress. It is the first general election since the 7 October 2023 attack and the wars that followed with Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran, and many analysts see it as a referendum on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's handling of them, Britannica notes.
Netanyahu's Likud faces two main rival camps: the Yashar party of Gadi Eisenkot, a former military chief of staff, and Beyachad (Together), the alliance of former prime ministers Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid. Recent coverage describes a close contest, with polls pointing to a possible deadlock between Netanyahu's bloc and the opposition.
In an i24NEWS poll by Direct Polls conducted on 07-10-2026, Likud fell two seats from the previous week to 26. The survey of 518 adults had a margin of error of 4.3 percentage points.
Netanyahu was touring the southern city of Kiryat Gat on 14-10-2026 when an explosion hit the Intel plant there, the Times of Israel reported.
