Members of dozens of student associations set up tents in Syntagma Square, outside Greece's parliament in Athens, on 13-10-2026 and held an overnight protest against rising rents and a shortage of student housing, GreekReporter reported. They marched to the Finance Ministry and submitted their demands.
Student leader Nina Nifakou said rent for a small studio has reached €600 a month and that existing student residences cover less than 4% of need. "For a student today, studying has become a matter of survival," she said. The University of West Attica has no student dormitory.
Students also cited rising food, transport and energy costs and said they would keep up the campaign through university assemblies and street protests. Greek students had called nationwide school actions on 08-10-2026, Axios reported, as protests that began in France spread across Europe.
